My 20 years at Greenwich Millennium Village
As part of our 20 year anniversary celebrations, we sat down with our long standing resident Linda, who told us about her experience of life at GMV
“Around the time the Millennium Dome was being built I saw a CGI of Greenwich Millennium Village in the Evening Standard and thought it looked good. It was in a great new location; I’ve lived in the borough of Greenwich my entire adult life and I’d always wanted to live near the river!”
“So I went along to a buyers’ evening at St Katherine Docks to see the model and learn more about the scheme. I absolutely love gardening, so after seeing the models I knew I wanted the one with the largest terrace! On the sales launch day, I thought I would beat the queues by arriving at 5:30am in the morning but other enthusiastic buyers had camped overnight! Luckily one of the sales team helped me get my preferred home: she also lives at GMV and I still bump into her 20 years later.”
“Buying off-plan was quite a big risk but I’ve never regretted it. I have a fabulous roof terrace with over 100 plant pots on it and a separate balcony which overlooks the lake. I’m very lucky to have such a beautiful spot.”
Village life
“Community life at Greenwich Millennium Village is great, there’s an active Resident Association and plenty of events and community gatherings. I’m also a member of the Greenwich Peninsula Community Choir.”
“I think it’s a great place to live, I’d recommend GMV to anyone thinking of moving here. It’s a shame the summer fair couldn’t go ahead this year as it’s great fun. There’s frequent events in Oval Square too - hopefully we can look forward to being back to normal next year.”
“For everyday living I use the local pharmacy and the Super Saver occasionally. Café Pura is a good venue for a coffee and cake, and I have been known to visit the Ayurvedic Spa for a massage a couple of times.”

Distinctive design
“As I bought off-plan, I used to come down and visit before I could move in and check on the progress. I have some brilliant pictures from 2000 – 2001.”
“When I’d moved into my flat the architect Ralph Erskine came to look around to check it had been built well: it was brilliant to meet him and give him the tour. I’ve now lived here for 20 years and it is still in good condition.”
“I knew about the masterplan and was very excited by the vision for the development: the style of the architecture is so distinctive and I love that so much of the development is focused on the ecology park - it has become the heart of the development.”
